Top of the ranking. It has a 0.001170% chance of encountering a ghost this Halloween. So, it’s not a very spooky place. However, it’s packed with tales of restless spirits. From haunted theaters to eerie old homes, it is a state where you may just bump into a ghostly presence. One person from Brocket saw an elderly white face looking through the window of the farmhouse, 7 feet up. After going outside, there was no sign of anyone there.
A legendary story in the state is about the haunted Liberty Memorial Building in Bismarck. Every year, footsteps are said to echo through its empty corridors.
2. Maine
Rich in history, with its foggy coastlines, Maine’s likelihood of a paranormal sighting stands at 0.001087%. It is home to the haunted town of Bucksport. Legend says that Colonel Jonathan Buck’s grave has a cursed, mysterious footprint. It was left by one of the many women he condemned.

Methodology
The number of reported ghost sightings per state was taken from Ghosts of America. From this, we took the population of each state from Stats America, based on the US census estimated for 2023. We used the percentage of people who have seen a ghost, based on dividing the number of reported sightings by the population of the state. To determine the chance of seeing a ghost on Halloween, considering it is far more likely to experience such things on Halloween and around this period of the year, we multiplied the rate of sightings per person by 33% to indicate that such sightings are more likely to happen.
